PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Parents, Caregivers and Families,
Last week we saw our students shine as they performed in the Joey’s Presents… Star Search. What more can I say! The kids were fantastic, and their acts were highly polished. Again, I acknowledge our staff for getting the acts to this level, with special mention to Mr Tim May for his drama and performance expertise. I also thank our families and friends who attended both the matinee and evening performances, adding to the spectacular. I thank you all for the positive feedback given to staff.
At our last assembly I spoke to all the students about humility and how important it is to be humble. I outlined how humility allows you to see the world through a lens where you are not at the centre, placing others before yourself. People with humility are courteous to other people and are always respectful.
Learning humility allows you to listen to other people’s perspectives, and accept new ideas. It allows you to feel grateful for what you have, not regretful what you don’t have.
Again, I repeated the theme that it is OK to make mistakes, and encouraged the importance of admitting that you made a mistake.
Having humility, or being humble, is living a life that’s fulfilled from the inside.
This brings me to talk about our wonderful staff. All of our staff are focussed on one thing, and that is your child, and their education and wellbeing. I thank our staff for their humility in ensuring that all of our children are known, loved, cared for and made to feel unique at St Joseph’s.
I wish all of you who might be going away over the spring break a great holiday with your family and look forward to seeing our community back in Term 4 for another term of learning.
Uniform reminder
It is important that all students wear the School Uniform and take pride in their appearance, as this is a very public way of exhibiting our school identity. It is the responsibility of parents and families to ensure that our children wear the correct uniform to school every day.
To all of our families, I thank you for your support in regards to your child’s ongoing learning. I look forward to welcoming our students back to Term 4 on Tuesday, 15th October.

INTEGRITY
In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus hands down a beautiful lesson in integrity. “If it’s your hand that causes you to stumble, cut it off”. This is very extreme, but it draws a parallel of when the woman, caught in adultery is about to be stoned to death. In this instance, Jesus kneels and writes in the sand and then says, “whoever of you is without sin cast the first stone”, and no one can.
What did He write in the sand? This will always remain a mystery. Perhaps he wrote down all their sins? This parallel is deeply important, because whenever we are confronted with something that we deem as “not right” we need to be challenged to hold a mirror up to ourselves, to see what is possibly going on within us first and foremost. This is a call to integrity. Let’s believe that integrity will always win, no matter what is spoken against you. The way we respond and hold ourselves will be what is measured. If this is the way Jesus responded to His disciples when they were (in good faith) pointing out the way others were going through life, I wonder how He would respond to our time today in the eyes of inclusivity and human dignity.

SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION
WITH YEAR 3 STUDENTS & BISHOP GREG
On Monday evening Year 3 students celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation with Bishop Greg officiating. This important Sacrament marks a significant milestone in their faith journey, as they deepened their understanding of the faith and received the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
During the liturgy, Bishop Greg and Father James guided the students through the ceremony, explaining each part and unpacking the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and how we can all apply them in our lives to be more caring, loving, and kinder to all.
Thank you to the wonderful teachers who helped prepare the students; Mrs Chambers, Ms Bryant and Mrs Tolman. A special thanks also to the beautiful musicians who played for us on the night and Fr James for preparing the students and answering all their questions. It was a beautiful Liturgy and we thank all the parents, families and staff who came together to celebrate this special occasion and encourage and support our wonderful students in this next step in their faith journey.
And as tradition goes, all students in Year 3 then got to celebrate the following day with cake!
ATTENDANCE INFORMATION
The Diocese of Lismore Catholic Schools have updated the procedures for monitoring and supporting schools to promote student attendance. Every school day builds upon the previous one, making it essential for students to attend regularly. Regular attendance is crucial as it fosters resilience and enables students to form vital social connections. Across all NSW education systems the expected level of student attendance is above 95%, and we aim to support all of our students to achieve this.
If your child’s attendance is below 90% you may receive a COMPASS communication in the coming weeks. We acknowledge that there may be many reasons for absences and you may have already provided information to the School about why your child has been away. However, this communication is to ensure all parents are aware that their child’s attendance is currently at or under 90%.
We believe that by working together, we can ensure that every student has the opportunity to succeed. Please ensure you contact the School if you would like any support with your child’s attendance.

Students who need a School Bus Pass for 2024 can apply here. A new application will need to be submitted if they are applying for the first time, or if they are requesting additional travel entitlement because of a new shared parental arrangement (e.g. joint custody).
If a student’s distance eligibility has changed based on their grade (i.e. grade two to grade three), the system will automatically update their entitlement if they meet the new criteria. If they do not meet the new eligibility criteria, we will send them an expiry notification via email.
Students living in rural and regional (R&R) areas should receive their travel pass at the start of the new school year from their nominated transport operator. It may be given to the student as they board the bus for the first time in 2024 or be sent directly to them at home.
WHEN YOU HAVE A MEDICAL CONCERN - CONTACT NORTH COAST HEALTH CONNECT
North Coast Health Connect is a free (bulk billing) new service providing health support and advice from registered nurses 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including public holidays. If you are a resident or visitor to the North Coast, you can speak or live chat with a nurse. The nurse will ask some questions to understand what’s troubling you and then provide advice on what your next step should be.
This may include self-care advice to help you to manage your health (or that of a loved one) from home, or the nurse may recommend a GP appointment or a consultation with a pharmacist. The nurses are able to book an appointment for you directly with a local general practice or pharmacy or if appropriate, can transfer you to a 24/7 GP telehealth service. If the nurse believes you need to attend an emergency department or see a different health service, they will let you know.
